Who’s Dr. Mayer?
Ben Kim approached Wendy for a last-minute prescription since his normal therapist was out of reach. Being the resident performance coach at the firm, she was shocked and felt undermined. She discovered others at MPC and investigated her coworkers.
Wendy also discovered they spoke with Dr. Mayer about non-work-related topics. Taylor recommended the new shrink to her people as she felt Wendy didn’t create a safe atmosphere for employees to share more than work issues with her.
After motivation from Wags, Wendy finds out who Dr. Eleanor Mayer (portrayed by Holland Taylor) is and visits her. Dr. Mayer expected her to visit. Wendy thanked the shrink for helping her patients and wanted to see how they could coexist and complement each other.
Mayer rebutted their style was completely different and that their shared patients were “addicts… what they need… it’s wrapped up in a very complicated bundle of compulsive behavior and purpose.” Mayer also described Wendy’s masked style as, “your talent and insight, you use it to disguise it all as “purpose” to keep them on the hampster wheel. And certainly, the wheel may get bigger, but it’s still a prison.”
Wendy rebutted that she was not their jailer. Mayer saw through Wendy and offered to counsel her, though she stormed out…
Later on, Wendy returned to speak with Dr. Mayer, seeking to learn why she feels like an “errand girl.” Dr. Mayer reluctantly became Wendy’s shrink.
Disgruntled
Bonnie returned to MPC to warn the team about a defunct former employee, Winston, pitching risk management software to her firm. His start was WDE Management. The “WDE” stands for Winston Dick Energy… or the code word for BDE! Bonnie leveraged the intel for compensation. It was also an opportunity for her and Dollar Bill to realign their fling.
Taylor and Philip took the intel to Prince because they felt disrespected that a former employee was shopping what they considered was their technology to competitors. They sought to handle it quietly to protect their reputations. Prince gave them 48 hours to succeed, or he would have Kate take legal action.
Taylor and Philip visited Winston to offer him a job at MPC rather than be his foe. He declined them. Just then, Wags stormed in and threatened him with a mountain of lawsuits, but it was a decoy to plant a bug that his P.I. used to listen in on Winston’s frantic calls after they left.
Wags learned of all the companies Winston planned to meet with…
Instead of Winston meeting several CEOs to pitch his software but was bombarded by Wags and MPC heads revealing his illegal hacking activities for the past decade. The acts he committed would land him in prison. They used it as leverage to regain the software, license a lesser version to other companies, yet rehire him to oversee the project. He was forced to agree to their terms.
Got My Mojo Back
Just as Prince predicted, Chuck reverted to his true nature. He was on a mission to hold the rich, the powerful, and the criminal- accountable for their actions. He charged his office to drum up old cases that had the potential to receive a second look to go after the corrupt. Chuck also asked Ira to be his Deputy US Attorney.
One of Chuck’s subordinates, Amanda Torre, brought a strong corruption case to him, and he kicked it back in search of the perfect prosecution case in his return as Attorney General. Later, she brought him a Super PAC submittal, possibly an SEC corruption case aimed at Mike Prince. Chuck was dubious Prince would be so careless and questioned the motive.
Prince’s people met with Chuck and Ira. It was a chance for both parties to feel each other out. Chuck knew it was a bait tactic. Ira reminded Chuck that his ego was not the only thing at stake, but he had a team supporting his crusade. Chuck has an 80-0 win streak as a prosecutor and was fearful of losing his first case returning.
Chuck thought he was being intervened by Karl Allerd, Ira, and his father. But it was a meeting with NBA Hall of Famer, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who coached him in overcoming after being knocked down.
Chuck sought to open an SEC investigation on Mike Prince regarding the Super PAC, seeing it as a decoy to find real corruption in Prince. Chuck revisited Amanda to pursue her cases, promising they would win…
