The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Episode 1 Recap
Daryl washed ashore on a small boat. He emerged and discovered a recording and figured he was in Marseille. He gathered supplies and traversed the barren European land.
A Bunch of Bad Decisions
He found an abandoned warehouse but was attacked by walkers. He fought them off, but they were soaked in acid, which burned his arm.
As he traveled, he noticed a woman watching him from a distance and posting flyers. He then discovered two travelers, a young woman, Marybeth, and a blind old man. They bartered for goods until two bandits confronted them, trying to steal their belongings.
Daryl attacked one of them and just barely missed being shot in the neck by the other thief. The young woman attacked him, saving Daryl. She killed the robber, and then the old blind removed his eye bandages and attacked Daryl. He passed out, but the pair were chased off by the woman from the road…
Daryl dreamed about his last promise to Judith Grimes of finding Rick and Michonne and returning. Then, he emerged at a convent where nuns cauterized his arm wound and nursed him back to health.
He met Sister Isabelle, and she asked how he ended up in France. Daryl replied, “A bunch of bad decisions.” She said she found the convent due to a bunch of good decisions…
Savior of Humanity
Daryl met a boy, Laurent, who was curious and smart. Quizzing Daryl about the population of France before the world fell, they estimated there are less than 200K living people left. It would take six to seven generations to repopulate the country.
Meanwhile, Marybeth and the old were confronted on the road by a trio of men headed by Codron looking for the pair of men who robbed them. They killed the old man and abducted the woman to show where he had last seen their comrades.
They found the comrades; Codron’s brother turned into a walker. The man painfully put him down, demanding to know who was responsible. They found the signs for the convent, enraged, aiming to find the American who killed them.
Daryl became upset after watching the boy trying to preach to a walker, their former priest, hoping that he would convert back to a human. Isabelle claimed Daryl was “the Messenger, “ a prophecy the boy foresaw and drew. She was convinced Laurent would be humanity’s new messiah and savior. She needed Daryl to take him to the new promised land…
The Chosen One
Sister Isabelle showed Daryl a pathway to another community, but the trail would be difficult. She urged Daryl to take Laurent on the pilgrimage, though he loaded up weapons and left.
While on the road, Daryl noticed a convoy of vehicles racing toward the convent. He was compelled to return and help…
Isabelle hid Laurent while Codron’s men searched the convent. They found the priest-turned-walker, and Codron forced Phillipe to kill it. This drew Laurent out of hiding. When the men tried to hurt Isabelle and Laurent, Daryl attacked and dashed! The other nuns attacked the men, and a melee sprawled.
Daryl and Codron faced off. Daryl was nearly shot and killed until Isabelle intervened. Daryl recovered the gun and shot Codron before he escaped!
The head nun, Mother Superior, was wounded and claimed although Daryl was not a believer, he was “the chosen one,” and then she died.
Daryl finally told Isabelle how he got to France. He told her that he left home seeking something better. He ran into some bad folks; they put him on a boat, and he washed ashore. He promised to take Isabelle and Laurent to the port she desired to travel to.
Meanwhile, we got a glimpse of menacing people Daryl escaped from, and they seemed to be experimenting on the Walking Dead…
