Warning… Spoilers below!
On Special Ops: Lioness Episode 8 Finale, after watching eight hours of terror attacks Amrohi bankrolled, Cruz reassured Joe she was focused on her mission.
Fear of the Uncertain
Cruz was placed past security at the Barcelona airport while Kyle followed stealthily. The team chartered a speedy yacht with their gear in wait for Cruz’s needs. Cruz was completely on her own, with only a beacon tracker and a means to call for an extraction if needed.
Westfield updates Secretary of State Mullins and senators on the situation. Instead of handing over control of a terrorist kill mission to politicians, they maneuvered it so that the Lioness heads would assume control of the Special Ops mission.
Mullins was peeved with this injunction. However, at this stage in the operation, his hands were tied. Mullins demanded to know the strike options since they could not send a missile strike on the Spanish location. Westfield made them clear:
- Cruz implants a tracker on Amrohi, and they strike in another location.
- Cruz calls in the QRF team and eliminates the target.
- If Cruz gets an opportunity, she kills Amrohi herself and calls QRF for a hot extract.
Hollar’s main concern was pulling the President from Europe should an attack commence. Hollar pulled Westfield to the side to discuss the optics of the situation. Although Asmar Ali Amrohi was their top target, he was also responsible for moving millions of barrels of oil. They rathered keep him in place to avoid the uncertainty of his successor. (Something Kaitlyn’s husband Errol uttered.)
Emotional Toll
When Cruz arrived at the ceremony compound, security was tight, and she was immediately taken to see Eshan (Aaliyah’s husband-to-be.) He confront her about New York, knowing they were together and striking her for her lies. Cruz rose up to him, and Eshan was appalled to be disrespected by a woman. Ultimately, he allowed her to stay the night as she would be gone from Aaliyah’s life by the morning.
Back at Joe’s home, Kate woke in a hysterical cry, and Neal consoled her. Kate phoned her mother, distraught about missing her friend’s funeral. Joe calmed her but scolded Neal for allowing their daughter to call at such mission-critical timing. Neal ranted about the situation, and Joe reeled it back and apologized. The emotional toll weighed on Joe as she balanced a high-stakes kill mission and family support.
Aalyiah described the wedding and ceremony process. How the men and women have separate celebrations, then come together. Aaliyah told Cruz her father was already in Mallorca. Aaliyah explained her perspective on her father’s business. She claimed he was not a terrorist but sold oil to whoever wanted to buy it.
She rationalized the reason he chose Eshan for her… So their children can have a legacy outside of the dangers of the oil business. She also confessed that Eshan knew about them. Aaliyah accompanied Cruz to her separate quarters. Cruz wept when she left.
Joe’s team and the Situation Room received visual confirmation that Amrohi was there! The bureaucrats wanted Cruz pulled. Logistically, it was not possible without a firefight and being exposed…
Geronimo
As Joe prepared for her mission, she was distracted while texting Nate. Kaitlyn made her focus.
That night, Aaliyah snuck into Cruz’s room. The pair kissed, but Cruz pulled away to get water…
Meanwhile, Eshan searched and found an old high school photo of Cruz. He dug more and discovered she enlisted in the military!
As Cruz tried to regain herself, Amrohi happened to be in the kitchen. They had a casual conversation, and he was charming as they shared gelato.
Suddenly, Eshan exposed Cruz in front of Amrohi. Cruz attacked Eshan with a knife, quickly killing him. Amrohi attacked her with a frying pan. She disarmed and stabbed him several times, then slit his throat as final measures. She activated her rescue beacon and B-lined to an exit!
The QRF team immediately shifted into gear towards Cruz. Aaliyah discovered her slain father and fiance, screaming for help.
Cruz ran barefoot in underwear as security shot at her. Just as she was pinned down by gunfire, Joe and the QRF team saved her by eliminating the security team. When Cruz returned to the yacht, she confirmed Amrohi was dead!
Fueling The Next Generation Of Terrorists
Mullins and Hollar scolded Westfield in the Situation Room for doing his job. Now, they must wrestle with the political fallout of the mission.
While in private, Cruz struck Joe for turning her into a killer. Cruz was regretful of killing Amrohi. Joe assured her that she changed history for the better. Cruz vowed to quit the Lioness program. Cruz felt her actions would only fuel the next generation of terrorists…
When Joe returned home, she told Neal how difficult this mission was. And he consoled his wife…
