Cruz Manuelos, a rough-around-the-edges but passionate young Marine, is recruited to join the CIA’s Lioness Engagement Team to help bring down a terrorist organization from within. Joe, the station chief of the Lioness program, is tasked with training, managing, and leading her female undercover operatives.

On Special Ops: Lioness Episode 1 Premiere, we meet Joe (portrayed by Zoe Saldana), a CIA operative in charge of the Lioness program. What once was female-only security detail has grown to enlist elite female combatants posed for undercover operations. Their goal is to befriend the female companion of their male counterpart for targeted execution.
Joe lost her best operative, Isabel, who ISIS exposed. Her only recourse was to destroy the camp with a drone strike, sacrificing her operative. She was searching for a replacement, which led her to Fort Bragg. She enlisted Marine, Cruz Manuelos (portrayed by Laysla De Oliveira.)
Cruz recently escaped an abusive relationship, landing in a Marine office for recruitment. Her brief tenure in the Marines caught the top brass’s attention as she was top of her class, yet she seemed to be on a suicide mission.
Though dropped in the hot seat of clandestine stealth, she quickly befriended her mark in the middle east. The heiress of wealth, Asmar Ali Amrohi’s daughter, Aaliyah Amrohi (portrayed by Stephanie Nur).
Joe is married to surgeon Neal (portrayed by Dave Annable,) and they have two teen daughters. The family struggles with mixed-race issues and busy parents. One is trying to save the lives of the terminally ill, and another is trying to save the country from terrorists.
Joe found a great operative in Cruz. However, she was rebellious and questioned authority. Despite the odds, Joe was forced to continue with her new recruit. Joe decided to put her through the wringer to test Cruz’s dedication…
